Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us before their first visit — answered.

What is stretch therapy exactly?

Stretch therapy is a guided, hands-on session where a trained professional helps you improve mobility, reduce tension, and feel better in your body. It combines assisted stretching, positioning, and breath coaching to support your goals: pain reduction, athletic performance, posture, recovery, and overall movement quality.

How is stretch therapy different from a regular massage?

In a massage you mostly lie still while I work on tissue. In stretch therapy we work together: I move and position your body, you breathe and give me feedback, and we find range you didn't know you had. It's active, it's collaborative, and you'll feel the difference in how you move, not just how you feel afterward.

What should I wear to a stretch therapy session?

Comfortable clothes you can move in: leggings or shorts and a t-shirt work great. You stay fully clothed the whole time, so no need to undress.

Do I need to be flexible or athletic to do this?

Not even a little. Stiff hips, tight shoulders, no gym membership, that's exactly who this is for. We start where your body actually is and build from there.

What happens during my first session?

We'll start with a basic body assessment, looking at restrictions and imbalances with posture and compensations. Then talk briefly about what we see and feel in your body and what you want to be able to do, then we will begin stretching and mobilizing the joints on the table and start moving.

Will stretch therapy hurt?

You should feel a strong, honest stretch, not pain. I'm checking in the whole time and you can tell me to back off at any point. Nothing here has to be earned through suffering.

Do you crack joints or do adjustments?

No. Stretch therapy focuses on assisted stretching and positioning. We may use gentle joint mobilizations, but we don't perform chiropractic-style adjustments.

How do I communicate intensity during the stretch?

Use simple numbers: tell me your intensity from 1 to 10, where 1 is barely feeling it and 10 is too much. We usually aim for a 6 to 8. If you feel sharp pain, numbness, tingling, or cramping, tell me right away.

Is it okay to talk during the session?

Absolutely. You can talk, breathe, and ask questions anytime. I may also cue quiet moments so you can focus on breath and relaxation, whatever your body responds to best.

What are your boundaries and consent practices?

Consent is required. I explain what I'm doing and where I'm placing my hands, and you can stop or change anything at any time. If a position feels uncomfortable or too vulnerable, we modify immediately.

What if I'm sore after the session?

Mild soreness can happen, especially if you're new or we addressed tight areas. It should feel like light workout soreness and usually fades within 24 to 48 hours. Hydrate, take a walk, and do the general homework stretches I give you.

How often should I come in?

It depends on what you're working toward. If you're chasing a specific goal or working through something stubborn, a regular rhythm helps things stick; 1-2 sessions per week for a few weeks to create change. If you're maintaining, once a week or biweekly working with your body, schedule and budget.

Do you provide at-home stretches or homework?

Yes. I'll give you one to three simple movements to do between sessions based on what we worked on. Small daily actions are what makes the biggest long-term difference.

How do I book, and what if I need to cancel?

Book online or reach out directly and we'll find a time. If plans change, just give me as much notice as you reasonably can so I can offer the spot to someone else.

How long is a session?

Sessions are scheduled with enough time to check in, work, and send you out with something to practice. The current session length is 45 minutes, however if adjustments need to be made we will do so.

How long until I notice results?

Some people feel relief the same day, and others notice the change build over a few sessions — both are normal. Mobility, posture, and long-term tension patterns tend to improve with repeated work plus a few simple daily habits, so consistency is what really moves the needle.

What is Movement & Mobility Massage?

It's hands-on massage combined with assisted movement, so we're not just working tissue while you lie still — we're teaching your body how to move through that range again. Expect a mix of pressure, guided motion, and me showing you what to do with it.

Do I need to shave my legs or do anything special before I come in?

Nope. Unshaved legs, cracked feet, whatever — I'm completely okay with all of that, and it changes nothing about the work. Just come as you are.

Is this relaxing or is it actual work?

It's real work — you'll be participating, breathing, and moving with me rather than drifting off. Most people leave feeling loose and capable rather than sleepy, and I'll be honest with you about what the session can and can't do.

Should I eat or drink anything before my appointment?

A light meal an hour or two before is ideal — you don't want to be stuffed or running on empty since we're moving your body. Drink water like you normally would; no need to overdo it.

Can I book if I have an injury or a medical condition?

Often yes, and it's worth reaching out so we can talk it through before you book. If something is acute, recent, or under a doctor's care, get their clearance first and I'll work within it.

Is this a good fit if I sit at a desk all day?

Absolutely — desk bodies are a big part of what I see. Tight hips, cranky necks, and shoulders that live up by your ears all respond well to this kind of work paired with small daily habits.

Can I come in if I'm pregnant?

Let's talk before you book so I can make sure the work is appropriate for where you are in your pregnancy. If it's not the right fit right now, I'll tell you straight and point you somewhere better.

What should I do after my session?

Move a little — an easy walk beats going straight back to the couch — drink water, and keep things low-key if you feel worked. If I give you a stretch or two to take home, doing them is what makes the session stick.

What if I need to reschedule or I'm running late?

Just message me as early as you can and we'll sort it out — life happens. If you're running behind, come anyway; we'll use the time we've got, though the session may end at the original time out of respect for the next client.
